Message from our CEO

Dear “Sun family” members,

It has been some time since I have updated you on the changes in our direction to serve you and our communities. Much has been accomplished by our team in our journey to implement a new culture for our colleagues, a renewed brand, and “New people focused” experience at Sun... a reinventing of your credit union with a renewed focus on “You”!

As we continue our Sun journey together, it remains with an emphasis that “we are in the people business” and strive to create an “extraordinary” experience for our members and our Sun colleagues. I do understand that we may not be offering that experience you expect, yet. However, please be assured that this is the guiding principle for our credit union.
A few significant actions taken here at Sun;

  • We continue to emphasize our “Vision” for Sun, which is the “why we are in business”: “Changing lives, because we care!”
  •  We continue emphasizing continuous improvement to create an extraordinary experience for you and be “easy to do business with”. We have a great deal of opportunity and work ahead of us to assess and improve our processes, and we have partnered with a process management consultant to look at our consumer loan process, for starters. Offering loans to you, in an “Easy to Do Business” approach, was the task given to our consultant. To that end our Sun Team is focusing on:

  • Simplifying and streamlining our lending process to create an easier experience for you.
  • Adjusting our loan guidelines to serve a broader base of the communities we serve. Life events happen, and we want to be a part of helping you into a better future and looking for solutions to “Get to Yes” for you.
  •  We addressed our debit card and credit card functionality by performing a complete reissuing of the cards. This ensures a “fresh start” with complete functionality and a new look that we are proud of. For those of you who experienced issues with the previous debit card and credit cards… we appreciate your patience and understanding.
  •  We opened our new Palm Springs Branch at 1717 E Vista Chino and, although originally without an ATM due to security and safety concerns for our membership. Given these concerns have been effectively addressed, a new ATM is being installed and will be ready for use by April, 2018
  •  Community Involvement: An area of strategic importance for “Sun” is to learn how we can assist more of our community by supporting education and providing nutrition availability. With that said, we have committed to:

  • Continuing our investment over the next 12 months to the Imperial Valley Food Bank as they raise funds to build a new and larger food storage facility to serve more of our community.
  • Partnering with Imperial Valley College’s Food Pantry by funding the monthly cost of 500 meals for students. Sun sponsored a Thanksgiving luncheon that fed over 200 students and they enjoyed 10 turkeys donated by Sun with all the trimmings, not to mention the family feel.
  •  The partnership went further as we sponsored a Christmas/Holiday celebration for students at the college, including holiday treats and two Christmas trees for decorating… another festivity with a family feel.

I am excited about our future together and becoming the finan¬cial institution of choice, employer of choice, and making a difference that only our Sun Team can offer. Simply said:
“Come on in, call in or click in…we would love to get to know you better and feel the Sun difference -  Changing lives, because we care”.
Please feel free to reach out to my email at Gahlgren@suncommunityfcu.org with your thoughts and comments that can assist us in a better experience for you and your family.

Grateful,

Gary Ahlgren
