Sun Community Federal Credit Union priority is the security of member’s personal information. With security threats and vulnerabilities appearing continuously it is important that members ensure that their personal information remains secure.
Sun Community Federal Credit Union is providing a few helpful tips to help member’s spot scams and guard against fraud.
Device Safety
Devices used to connect to the internet may contain personal information about you. To help protect yourself install or turn on the following features on your computer, laptop, tablet, phone or other device:

Ensure that your device is using Anti-virus\spyware and malware from a known software provider. Ensure that it automatically updates regularly and the device is scanned often.

Security Patches and System Updates - Regularly install security patches and system updates on your device or it can be left vulnerable to the latest threats.

Online banking activities and viewing or downloading documents should be conducted using a secure Internet connection in a private location.

Use your device security features by setting username, password or pin to prevent unauthorized access.

Contact carrier and disable mobile device if lost or stolen immediately

Use trusted sources to download and install "apps" only

Avoid using public Wi-Fi hot spots or other shared computers to access your financial accounts online.

Change default passwords on devices like your home wireless router and enable firewall and security settings.

Avoid jailbreaking device to disable security features.
Phishing
Phishing is a scam with criminal purpose to steal personal information to use for fraudulent intent.
Email Phishing
Email appears to come from a trusted source with link to a spoofed web site. The spoofed web site will look like the normal trusted source web site. You will be asked to input or verify personal information on the spoofed web site for security or other purposes.
Voice Phishing
You receive a phone call asking to confirm personal information to protect you for various reasons. The only different from email phishing this is completed over the phone.
Text Message
You may receive a text message with a link to a spoofed web site or a phone number to call. The criminal will be looking to harvest your personal information.
Actions
If you get a suspicious text message, phone call or e-mail, do not respond or click on any links. Instead, call the sender using a phone number you trust, such as the one on your statement.

If you receive a Phishing attempt about winning the lottery, a prize or service that you knew nothing about do not click on any links.

Monitor your accounts for any suspicious transactions and consider requesting your credit report.

If you believe that your account is compromised stop online activities that involve login IDs, passwords, or other sensitive personal information and contact account vendors.
Malware
Malware is a program that may contain viruses, worms, spyware, trojans or turn your device into part of a botnet. Criminals will hide the malware, so that you download it from web sites, emails or get it from removal media. The malware can be used to steal personal information, control devices or send spam.
Malware can change device behavior like:

Display wrong web pages

Send emails you know nothing about

Device slows down or behaves strangely
Avoid malware getting on to your device with the following:

Passwords
Your password with your login ID allows access to the Online and Mobile banking. Use a combination of letters, numbers and special characters to make the password harder to guess. A password phase (Richard0fYorKd1db@ttle1nv@1n)maybe easier to remember.
Avoid predictable or easily guessed passwords like your nickname, street address or favorite thing.
Don’t share your password and change regularly and if you think a password may have been compromised, change it immediately. Don't use the same password for each online account you access. Your online banking login ID or password should never be used at another site.
